However for a majority of people it takes 3 for the entire application process till the day they fly to USA. For some people it takes longer because even when they get contacted by a family, they may feel like that particular family or location is not the best fit for them and so they may choose to defer matching fast in preference of matching later with the best fit family and location. It’s also dependent on how many families are looking for an au pair with your specific qualifications and the time of year that you apply. Once your application is approved and available online for host families, interested families will reach out to you via email with an introduction letter and set up a Skype interview to discuss your childcare qualifications in depth and your interests.

Your job is to be well prepared and make sure you ask questions that will help you get to know them better and in particular get to know their kids better and to be yourself because pretending to be something you are not may come back to bite you later when you realize you are matched with the wrong family. We will guide you with questions to ask. So be genuine and remember that what’s meant to be will always happen and if it’s a mutual interest the match will happen and you can both agree on your arrival date.
